FATHER ABEL’S COLUMN – JUNE 14TH, 2015

good-shepherdI am humbled and honored to have been installed by Bishop DiMarzio as the 10th Pastor of St. Sebastian parish. Words can’t describe how truly happy I am to be able to serve each and every one of you. As I have said many times, I love being a priest and now I especially love serving as your Pastor. I promise to continue to work hard and keep this parish alive in Christ’s love. I thank Bishop DiMarzio for his confidence and trust in appointing me as Pastor. I respect and admire Bishop DiMarzio so very much! I had the privilege of working very closely with him in my role as Vocation Director. I have come to know a man who truly is a shepherd, who cares so very much for the flock that has been entrusted to him. Thank you Bishop for all you have done for me!

I want to thank all of you for your prayers and participation in last week’s 8th Annual Corpus Christi Procession! It was truly a blessed event for our parish and community as we processed the Blessed Sacrament around the streets of Woodside. A special word of thanks to Dr. Catherine Thronton for all her excellent work carried out with her committee. She puts in a lot of time and energy into making this a truly powerful encounter with Christ!

Finally, I want to wish all of God’s Blessings upon the graduation class of 2015! I am truly proud of all of their accomplishments that they have achieved during their time here at St. Sebastian and me as your Pastor love you so very much and please know we will always be here for you!

Thanks for your support.

FATHER ABEL’S COLUMN – JUNE 7TH, 2015

eucharistToday we celebrate the beautiful feast of Corpus Christi, the Body and Blood of our Lord! Today we continue to thank God for the great gift of Jesus to us in the Holy Eucharist. The Eucharistic is the source and summit of our life as Catholics. At the Last Supper, Jesus took bread and a cup of wine, blessed them and gave it to his apostles at table. Then he commanded them to celebrate this meal until he come again in glory. Jesus comes to us as food for the joining. As we receive Him we grow in wisdom and strength. As we receive Him we become more like Him.

Today is also our 8th Annual Corpus Christi Procession around the streets of Woodside. I look forward to this as it is another opportunity to show the community our love for Jesus in the Eucharist.

Finally, Please don’t forget about my installation as Pastor next Saturday at 5pm Mass. There will be a wonderful reception with sandwiches, etc. to celebrate this occasion.

Thank you for your support.

I write to you about 2 special events that will happen over the next two weeks, The first is our 8t Annual Corpus Christi Procession that will take place next Sunday at the 1:15pm Mass. I encourage all of you to take part in this procession that continues to give life to all of us here at St. Sebastian. All of our parish ministries have been invited to sit together at mass and process together, with all of our parishioners, around the streets of Woodside as a way of showing others our love for Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Please make every effort to join us for Mass and / or the Procession that follows.

On Saturday, June 13th at the 5 pm Mass, Bishop DiMarzio will install me as the 10th Pastor of St. Sebastian. I have sent a letter to all of our parish groups asking all of its members to attend as well as all of you who make up this great Parish. I love serving here in the parish. In fact, it’s an honor. What would make this day special to me is if many of you can join me and the Bishop as we pray to the Lord for His guidance as we continue His work in Woodside.

Reminder from June 1 to June 5 there will be a special mass celebrated for the Holy Eucharist at 7pm followed by the novena to the blessed sacrament and then again on Saturday June 6 at 9am

Today is the feast of Pentecost. It is the birthday of the Church. Today we recall how the power of the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity, has formed the church and kept it faithful to the mission of Jesus in the world. The Church is in the people of God. The Church comes alive when it asks the Holy Spirit to transform their hearts and make them more and more like the lord. My friends, continue to ask the Holy Spirit to come into your hearts. The Holy Spirit is powerful and life giving and will renew you and the face of the earth.

We are counting down the days to our 8th Annual Corpus Christi Procession on Sunday, June 7th at the 1:15pm Mass. Please make every effort to join us for this special event in which we give thanks to God for the gift of Jesus in the Eucharist. I encourage all of our parish groups and societies to be present at Mass and for the Procession as we show our love for this great gift.

That week leading up to our procession (June 1-5) we will have a special Mass at 7pm in honor of the Eucharist, following by the litany to the Holy Eucharist. I hope many of you can come to this as well.

Please don’t forget that we have Mass at 7pm in English (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday) and in Spanish (Thursday).

Finally, I hope all of you can join me as Bishop DiMarzio installs me as the 10th pastor of St. Sebastian on Saturday, June 13th at 5pm. I look forward to sharing this special moment with all of you whom I love very much.

Thanks for your support.
