FATHER ABEL’S COLUMN – MAY 17TH, 2015

fr-kevinI am happy to inform you that Bishop DiMarzio will be officially installing me as the 10th pastor of St. Sebastian on Saturday, June 13th at 5pm Mass. I hope all of you can be a part of it as I give thanks to God for giving me the honor of serving you as your Pastor. You know how much I love it here! I love it here because each and every one of you are great! We have so much faith that it inspires me to be the best possible. We. Have done so much together in my short time here! We have added an evening Mass at night 7pm, started all day adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, and extended the Rectory hours till 9pm and even added hours on Sunday!

We created 2 additional ministries and societies, doubled the number of students in our religious Education Program, only to name a few. I am not perfect at all! But I promise you that I try and work very hard to do the best I can. I am always present in the parish! I am very proud of that. I know with 6,000 people it’s impossible to please everyone but I hope at the very least you see in me someone who loves being a priest and a Pastor in the greatest Parish in the Diocese!

Thanks for your support

FATHER ABEL’S COLUMN – MAY 10TH, 2015

mother-babyHappy Mother’s Day! I thank God for the great gift from my mother, grandmother and aunt in my life. Their sacrifices, presence and example has made me the person that I am today. Being a mother is truly a vocation. Mothers have the great gift of being co-creation with God. Mothers bring life into the world and they sustain our life as well. Certainly, I can’t thank God enough for all the many sacrifice that my mother has made for me. I am especially thankful for the example of faith my mother has been and continues to be in my life. My mother nourished the faith in my life and taught me the importance of having a relationship with God.

I encourage all you mothers to continue to do the same. Continue to be example of faith to your children. We need your faith to your children. We need your faith to inspire our young people to deepened faith in Jesus.

A Blessed Mother’s Day to all.

FATHER ABEL’S COLUMN – MAY 3RD, 2015

la-madonna-delle-stradeThis Month of May, like October, is dedicated to our Blessed Mother! What a blessing May is to our spiritual lives as we ask her guidance in being opened to the will of God in our lives.

Our first communicants will have the honor of crowning our Blessed Mother today at the 10:30am Mass. The statue of our Blessed Mother will remain in the Sanctuary for the entire month as a way of encouraging future devotion to her. Every Sunday at 10:00am, members of our Rosary Society will continue to lead the rosary before mass.

Also, we will have our 9 day Novena to our Lady Undoer of Knots beginning May 11th – 19th after the 9am Mass. (Please note that the novena will start at 10am on Sunday May 17th)

On Sunday May 17th we will have a special blessing upon all expected parents at all our Masses. Please make every effort to attend Mass and ask God’s Blessing for a healthy delivery and child!

Thanks for your support.

FATHER ABEL’S COLUMN – APRIL 26TH, 2015

collarToday is world day of Prayer for Vocation! A topic that is near to my heart! I love being a priest! This May 31 I will be a priest for 12 happy years! I thank God each day for the gift of my priesthood and pray for many more wonderful years in His service. I especially enjoy serving as a priest here in St. Sebastian. You know how much I love serving all of you here I can honestly say that I am a better priest because of all of you!

Each of us has a vocation from God. A vocation is a call by God to serve Him and make Him known to the World. This is done as married people, single people, religious, priest and deacons. Each one of us has a special love in God’s Kingdom. God needs each and every one of us to build the Kingdom. Let us pray that we may do so joyfully!
