FATHER ABEL’S COLUMN – MARCH 31ST 2019

Return of the Prodigal Son

Holy week and Easter are fast approaching! I continue to encourage all of you to make the most of this special time of year by participating in the sacred liturgies that will help us to be drawn into the Paschal mystery of our Lord!

Please continue to pray for those members of our parish who will be preparing for full initiation into the life of our faith. I have been inspired by their openness to giving themselves over to the working of the Holy Spirit.

Next weekend, as we do every year, Bishop DiMarzio has asked that we think about the 2019 Annual Catholic Appeal. This year I have asked members of the Stewardship and Hospitality committee to speak about the importance of all of us to support this appeal as a way of assuring that our Diocese will continue to provide the many programs and services for the faithful! Please be open to their presentation. They have worked so very hard on it. Thanks for supporting the 2019 Annual Catholic Appeal.

Also, next Sunday, we will have a mass of thanksgiving for Fr. Cyril who will celebrate the 1:30 Mass followed by a reception in the school auditorium. I encourage all of you to come and to wish him well as he returns to India after Easter to start up again his ministry in his diocese.

Sunday, April 14, we will have our Annual My Easter Gift collection for the parish. I humbly ask you to seriously consider a minimum of $50.00. This money will go towards our yearly assessment bill, which is $113,000. This bill comes ever October and the parish needs to pay this by the end of this fiscal year. To date, I have been able to pay something toward the balance. Our outstanding balance is $80,000. I am hoping to put this collection towards the remaining balance. Please continue to help me with this!

Thanks for your support.

FATHER ABEL’S COLUMN – MARCH 24TH 2019

I wanted to thank those of you who made or donated Irish soda bread for last week’s St. Patrick Lunch. I truly hoped you enjoyed that event. The event simply was to celebrate St. Patrick and to bring members of our community together. A special thank you to those who help set up and serve this special even for our parish!

On Sunday April 7, I have asked Fr. Cyril to celebrate the 1:30pm Mass as a way of thanksgiving. A reception in the auditorium will follow as a way for us to thank him for his wonderful ministry to us over the last 5 years. He will be leaving the night after Easter and this will the best time for the parish to show our appreciation to him. I will have a lot more to say about Fr. Cyril as we draw closer to this day!

Thanks for your support.

Saint Patrick

I wanted to wish everyone , especially our Irish parishioners, a blessed St. Patrick’s Day. Let us continue to pray through the intercessions of St. Patrick that we will continue to stand up for our faith and that we may bring others to Christ as well.

Tuesday we will celebrate the feast of St. Joseph. We will have a special Mass at 12noon in which we will give out 1 pastry to everyone who attends.

Reminder about coming to pray vespers every Sunday at 5:00PM in the Church.

A blessed St. Patrick ‘s and St. Joseph’s Day to all!

FATHER ABEL’S COLUMN – MARCH 10TH 2019

Christ in the Wilderness

Ash Wednesday was truly a powerful, spiritual experience for me personally and for the nearly 10,000 people that came to the Church all day to receive ashes on their forehead and to begin the discipline of Lent! I encourage all of you to take advantage of all that our parish has to offer as we look forward in 40 days’ time to the celebration of Easter.

Please note we will have evening prayers prayed every Sunday at 5:00pm in the Church. Evening prayer or Vespers as it’s also called is also the public prayer of the Church. Each Sunday we will have a visiting priest come in to preside and to offer a reflection for our Lenten journey. We will pray the Stations of the Cross in the Church every Wednesday at 12:45pm, every Friday at 7:30pm and also in Spanish every Thursday at 7:45pm.

In addition to the regular weekday schedule of Mass at 7, 9, & 12 we also have an English Mass at 7:00pm on Mondays, Tuesdays. Wednesdays and Fridays during Lent. Please try to incorporate Mass into your Lenten journey as much as possible.

I also encourage you to take advantage of the events offered from our Parish Outreach office. Once again, we will be having our Landings Ministry. This is one of the most important ministries we have in our parish. We are welcoming home Catholics who have wandered away from the practice of the faith. Our landings outreach will begin on Monday, March 18th. If you or anyone you know would like guidance on how to return to the practice of the Faith, I strongly encourage you to give Landings a try!

A Blessed Lent!
