FATHER ABEL’S COLUMN – MARCH 31ST 2019

Return of the Prodigal Son

Holy week and Easter are fast approaching! I continue to encourage all of you to make the most of this special time of year by participating in the sacred liturgies that will help us to be drawn into the Paschal mystery of our Lord!

Please continue to pray for those members of our parish who will be preparing for full initiation into the life of our faith. I have been inspired by their openness to giving themselves over to the working of the Holy Spirit.

Next weekend, as we do every year, Bishop DiMarzio has asked that we think about the 2019 Annual Catholic Appeal. This year I have asked members of the Stewardship and Hospitality committee to speak about the importance of all of us to support this appeal as a way of assuring that our Diocese will continue to provide the many programs and services for the faithful! Please be open to their presentation. They have worked so very hard on it. Thanks for supporting the 2019 Annual Catholic Appeal.

Also, next Sunday, we will have a mass of thanksgiving for Fr. Cyril who will celebrate the 1:30 Mass followed by a reception in the school auditorium. I encourage all of you to come and to wish him well as he returns to India after Easter to start up again his ministry in his diocese.

Sunday, April 14, we will have our Annual My Easter Gift collection for the parish. I humbly ask you to seriously consider a minimum of $50.00. This money will go towards our yearly assessment bill, which is $113,000. This bill comes ever October and the parish needs to pay this by the end of this fiscal year. To date, I have been able to pay something toward the balance. Our outstanding balance is $80,000. I am hoping to put this collection towards the remaining balance. Please continue to help me with this!

Thanks for your support.
